Friends: Like so many of you, I was / am a voracious reader. I love reading almost any subject under the sun which is non-technical, be it fiction in all its varieties, comic strips, psychology, self-improvement, philosophy, autobiographies or spirituality. Paradoxically, when I had all the time to read, I had no money to buy books. Now, when I can afford to buy them, I hardly have the time to read them. During the good old days, there were a few libraries scattered around, but the variety of books that were available were far limited by the owner’s imagination. These days, there are very few libraries around, although the number of book shops have multiplied. Children, these days are far more occupied with the TV, electronic games and the hi-tech gadgets, which were more or less non-existent a few decades ago. However, there still exist a substantial number of them who would love to read books but either they do not have the financial capacity to enroll themselves in a good library or to buy books or if they do have the financial capacity, there are hardly any good libraries. Considering the emotional pain I went through in my young days scouring friends, relatives and various others so that I could borrow a few books from them, I grew up with the thought that I should do something about it. This then is a beginning….. I have a DREAM to set up a reading library with a vast assortment of books, especially for children, within the next few years, where the less privileged children could make use of its facilities for free; whereas those who could afford it would pay a price for the variety that the library offered. From 1983 onwards, I have been slowly collecting books, many of them purchased second hand in those early difficult days; thereafter adding to the collection on a regular basis. As of date I have managed to collect around 1800 books, categorized and listed. An updated list is available here. Books marked with an * have been donated by well wishers after reading about this proposed project. I have been lucky in getting excellent support from my wife and other family members. We do run a library from home, only with a view to derive supplementary funds for the dream as the present nature of employment precludes any substantial savings. At this moment, we have very few books for children and the intention, of course, is to have a special library for children. We have a scattering of friends and well wishers who have recently started donating their books to me, which otherwise would have found its way to the nearest junkyard or old-paper mart. I solicit your help in any manner that you conceive and also invite your ideas which may help us in our project. Most importantly, we request you not to throw away or discard your books, which are in good condition, but rather to send them to any of us—the contact details are given on the home page. Ideas and suggestions on improving this website and on developing our project are MOST WELCOME!
